Day Two: 8th April 13:00 – 17:00.
Week 1 will cover a) oestrous cycle, b) how you can monitor stage of cycle with ultrasound scanning, c) Post partum resumption of cyclicity in dairy and beef cows.
Week 2 will cover oestrous synchronisation options for various categories of cattle (Heifers, Beef cows and Dairy cows).

About the Speaker
Mark Crowe
Mark Crowe is Professor of Animal Husbandry and Reproduction in the School of Veterinary Medicine in UCD, where he teaches reproductive biology to undergraduate veterinary students. He is currently head of Herd Health and Animal Husbandry at the UCD School of Veterinary Medicine. He received his PhD in Reproductive Biology (1994) from the UCD Veterinary School. He is board certified by the American College of Animal Physiology (2002) and is an associate member of the European College of Animal Reproduction (2010). His research endeavours were recognised by the award of a higher doctorate (DSc) based on published work (2010) by the National University of Ireland, and by the national distinction of being elected a member of the Royal Irish Academy (MRIA) in 2013. He served as director of research and deputy head of School from 2008-2011. His research is in the areas of reproductive biology and stress physiology in cattle, sheep and horses.
He has authored or co-authored in excess of 150 full peer reviewed original research papers. He was President of the European Society for Domestic Animal Reproduction (2011 to 2017), where he has served on the board of directors from 2003 to 2017 and 2020 to present and was Honorary Secretary from 2004 to 2011. He has served as a member of the research committee of the Association of American Veterinary Medical Colleges (AAVMC), on a number of European Veterinary School accreditation visitations, as a member of the Society for the Study of Reproduction (SSR) membership committee 2006 to 2010 and the SSR awards committee 2012-2014. He has also been an editorial board member for J. Dairy Science 2003-2008, and an editorial board member for Reproduction in Domestic Animals (2006 to 2017). He is responsible for teaching reproductive biology in the UCD School of Veterinary medicine.
